Slowly, we swayed to imagined music. It was a stifling warm summer night and my hand was sweaty in James'. But his metal hand on the bare skin on my back was soothing. I laid my head on his chest and closed my eyes to the moonlight shining through the window. I heard his heart beating strong and steady.

We'd had a fun night with our friends. James was warming up to this new world with his mind his own again. It made me happy to see. But this right here, just him and me, this was his safe space.
