Instinct had sent her there, to a few feet away from his door. She looked at it. Instinct had him turn away from his bed and walk to the door. But he stopped.

The compound was quiet in the middle of the night. She could hear herself breathing fast. He heard his own heart beating in his head.

She needed him as much as he needed her. She walked up to the door. He knew healing her would heal him. He laid his hand on the knob.

On each side of the door, both closed their eyes.
