Just a fluffy thing for my best friend cause she deserves something fluffy.
It was warm, so warm. But not uncomfortably so. It was a pleasant burn that had started near his toes and pulled at his consciousness. Then it had travelled up his leg, slowly pulling him from his sleep. Now it was at his hips, and the sunlight streaming past the crack in the curtains was close enough now so he could see the brightness behind his closed eyelids.
The other thing filling him with a comfortable warmth was the body next to him. And that is what made him slowly open his eyes and turn his head around. There she was, bathed in the glow of the sunrise, looking nothing short of an angel.
Kayla was on her side facing him, her hands below her chin and her legs tangled around the one he had under the covers. Her face was peaceful, her breaths coming slow and deep, the warmth of them wafting over his arm. It looked like she had reached for his arm in her sleep and either not been able to catch it or not able to hold onto it with the limpness that came with sleep.
Bucky turned around as carefully as he could, laying on his side, elbow on the pillow to support his head. And then he just looked at her. With his body lying higher in the bed, the sunlight didn't reach her anymore, but that didn't make her look any less like some kind of ethereal being. One strand of dark hair was hanging down over her nose and he couldn't believe that it didn't tickle her or wake her up. With a smile, he reached down and lifted it gently from her face, letting it glide through his fingers as it fell down to join the rest of her soft, dark hair.
For several long moments Bucky looked at her, feeling his chest tighten with emotion. How lucky was he, to be able to fall asleep next to and wake up to this woman. To kiss her whenever he wanted to, to hold her hand when the world became too much for him, or he just needed to feel her skin against his. How lucky was he, to know this beautiful woman, to have her in his life, this blinding ray of sunshine.
The first time he laid his eyes on her, his throat had closed up. Never before had he seen someone so beautiful. And when she spoke, never before had he heard such a beautiful sound. And when she touched him, never before had he felt so safe and so loved. But, the first time she said his name... It had just been the two of them, in her room, talking. He had told her something from his past, he couldn't remember what, and Kayla had taken his hand in both of hers and whispered: "Oh, James."
There was no going back from that moment. He was hers. Body and soul for as long as he was on this earth. Kayla held his heart in her hands and he did not want it back.
Bucky couldn't hold himself back anymore. He wet his lips, leaned down and gently pressed them to her temple. She sighed, it was barely audible, but easily one of the most wonderful sounds in the world. He put his hand above her head and leaned even closer, gently pressing his lips to her forehead, her nose, her chin, her cheek... Her nose scrunched up slightly, and Bucky held back a giggle. When she didn't wake up, he continued his shower of kisses. Pressing his lips to everywhere he could reach except her lips, while keeping an eye on her in case she woke up.
He had no idea how many kisses he had given her, when her eyes finally opened, revealing the warm brown orbs. And the moment she was lucid, he laid his hand on her face and finally kissed her lips. Pressed his to hers, marvelling at how soft she was. Very soon, she responded, one arm sneaking over his waist and pulling herself closer and deepening the kiss. Bucky moaned at her eagerness and he felt her smile slightly against him as she pulled back just enough to end the kiss and look into his eyes, but close enough for her breath to warm his face.
"Hi," Bucky whispered.
"Hi, James," she whispered back, and pulled him promptly down for more kisses.
